Bachelor of Environmental Science Changes
Your Options
1. Continue with your current Program
If you’re happy with your current program, no action is required. You can continue your study, following the program rules and course list from the year you commenced.
If you have completed more than 16 units towards your program, we recommend that you remain on your current study plan, as this will ensure that you remain on track to graduate on time.
We recommend that you review the pre-2021 Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours) study planner, as this has been updated with any changes to courses offered in your program.
If you no longer wish to complete the final stage of your program (i.e. you do not wish to complete Honours), please contact us to discuss your options.
2. Transfer to the revised Program
You can explore the option of studying the program under the revised structure and requirements.
Before making a decision, please read the 'Key Changes', 'Transition Details' and 'Next Steps' to understand what has changed for the program and carefully consider the options to select the one that best suits you.
Update as of 22 March, 2021:
Please note, as a new program, some of the BEnvSc core courses will be offered for the first time from 2022 and 2023. Students are advised that the earliest graduation date for this program is Semester 2, 2023.
Once you have changed to the revised 3-year program, in order to progress to an Honours year, you would need to apply for the 1-year Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours) [2459].
Key Changes
From Semester 1 2021, the revised program will be offered as a 3-year program, instead of a 4-year with Honours embedded (included) program. Due to the significant change to the structure of the program, there are now new program codes:
Program Type | Program Code |
---|---|
Current 4-year program with Honours embedded (included) Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours) |
2353 |
Revised 3-year program Bachelor of Environmental Science |
2458 |
Revised 1-year Honours standalone program Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours) |
2459 |
The revised 3-year Bachelor of Environmental Science [2458] has the following changes:
- Core (compulsory) courses required for program have changed
- Majors are no longer available to study
- Decrease in the amount of late year courses (level 3 or higher) required
- Changes to elective courses offered
- Anyone studying the revised 3-year program, wishing to complete Honours, will need to apply to study the revised 1-year Honours standalone program.
Review the Bachelor of Environmental Science [2458] to see what is available to study in this program.
Deciding which Program is right for you
When deciding whether you will continue with your current program or transition to the revised program, you should take into consideration:
- the number of units you've completed in the pre-2021 program
- the changes to your current major
- if changing to the revised program structure is likely to affect your remaining program duration
- any change to your program fees
