What will I study?

Biological Chemistry Stream: A clearer and more precise understanding of the molecular processes that occur in biological systems is empowering researchers in the biological fields. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the core chemical principles and how they can be applied to and enrich biological research. In addition, you will have a profound knowledge of the structure and functions of complex biological systems which is essential in modern pharmaceutical, and medical research.

Nanotechnology Stream: An understanding of the underlying chemical principles in nanotechnology enables preparation of advanced materials and the exploration of their properties. With the striking rate of recent advances in this area, nanotechnology is having a major impact on the life sciences, biotechnology, the electronics industry and materials science. What do the different requirements mean?

  • Prerequisite for major – course required for this major

Elective Elective

1. Students without Queensland Senior Chemistry should complete CHEM1090 before taking any other chemistry course.
2. Students without at least a Sound Achievement in Senior Maths C are required to take MATH1050 as an elective before MATH1051.
3. MATH1050 is not available for students with a High Achievement or higher in Senior Maths C. MATH1050 is not available to students who have passed MATH1051 and/or MATH1071 and/or MATH1052 and/or MATH1072
4. Students with a high achievement in Senior Maths C (or a 6 or 7 in MATH1050) should take the sequence MATH1071, MATH1072 and MATH2401. Students with a sound achievement in Senior Maths C (or a 4 or 5 in MATH1050) should take the sequence MATH1051, MATH1052 and MATH2400.
